STEP ONE: RESEARCH

WATCH

The closest thing â€‹to the School Edition is the 1978 movie (with John Travolta & Olivia Newton John). We don't recommend watching GREASE: LIVE, or any of the productions you may find on YouTube

A note about content: Our production will be cleaner than what you see/hear from these examples.

STEP TWO: SEND A VIDEO AUDITION (MAY 30 - JUNE 7)

  • Once you're super familiar with the show and music, decide which characters you identify with, which you think you're right for, and which characters would challenge you at this stage in your training!  Please pick 2 to 3 different characters to audition with, so we can see some range!

  • Here is a link to the sides and songs we'd like you to use for auditions. You will need a reader for the scenes.

  • The first round of auditions are through video submissions only!  Please follow these shooting instructions carefully:

  • We recommend you ask an adult to help you shoot your audition videos.

  • Shoot in a place with good lighting.

  • Shoot your video horizontally - please do not shoot vertically

  • Do not have your entire body in frame (only shoot from waist up, or in close-up with head & shoulders only)

  • Make a separate video for each character you are auditioning for. Each video should include that character's sides and song. Before you begin, we would like you to take a moment to explain to us WHY you chose that character.

  • Please, do not email or text us any video files. We would like you to send us a direct link. You can do that by uploading each of your videos separately to Youtube or Vimeo and send those links to sierra@act1LA.com  (...if you don't know how to do that, let us know!)

  • PLEASE SEND YOUR VIDEOS IN NO LATER THAN JUNE 7!  If you are leaving town before then, please get your videos into us earlier!

STEP THREE: COME IN FOR AN IN-PERSON AUDITION (JUNE 15-20)

  • We will be scheduling you individually to come in for an in-person audition, between June 15 and June 20.  If you are out of town during this time, please let us know now!

  • We may ask you to prepare additional characters than the ones you sent in your videos.

  • We'll read some sides together, and we will have you sing again.

  • We may ask you to show us some choreography for certain roles.

  • Practice LOTS!  Be ready to sing and perform to your best ability, especially if you're a brand new student and we don't know you yet!

  • We would like you to print out your sides to bring with you, instead of reading them off your phone.

  • Ideally we would prefer you to be totally memorized. This will give you the strongest possible audition!

STEP FOUR: COME TO CAMP & FIND OUT YOUR PART!

  • During the first couple of days of camp we'll be learning some songs and choreography for large group numbers.

  • We may continue to audition students on the first day of camp, or we may have it cast by then.

  • We will post the cast list and do the table read on either the first or second day of camp!  For anyone who is absent that day, we'll shoot you an email with the cast list.
