HADESTOWN: TEEN EDITION

HADESTOWN: Teen Edition

This full-length Teen Edition of Anaïs Mitchell’s haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice.

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone –Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

The performance rights for the full Broadway edition of Hadestown is not currently available for licensing. The only edition available for licensing is the Teen Edition.

Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown, with a run time of over 120 minutes.

Modifications made for the Teen Edition:

  • Original five-member WORKER chorus converted into a flexible and expandable SATB WORKER chorus.

  • Removal of action/language related to substance abuse and sexual references.

  • Suggested dialogue and music adjustments for productions utilizing performance tracks.

  • Adjusted vocal arrangements to better accommodate teen voices, including modified FATES features and transposed keys.

WHO CAN AUDITION?

AGES 13-18

The score of Hadestown blends folk, jazz, blues and gospel with complex rhythms and harmonies. Leading players must have range and stamina. The chorus/ensemble needs tight group vocals and the ability to handle stylized choreography. Dramatically, we need a cast who can handle emotional nuance through tone, movement and expression.

Due to the challenging nature of this show, it is recommended for students 13 and up. We will consider students younger than age 13, on a case-by-case basis. Send us an email to inquire.

STUDENTS WITH ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE ARE WELCOME IN OUR PROGRAM!

What matters more to us than experience and skill is a great attitude, enthusiasm, directability and a fierce work ethic!  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
