MUSICAL WRITING Classes (ages 11-16)

Creating a Musical with Devyn

90 minute class

Saturdays 2:30-4:00

$240 for 8 weeks!

DEVYN WARD is a teaching artist and actress, and a graduate from the University of Northern Colorado, where she received a Bachelor's of Arts in Acting and K-12 Theatre Education. She is very passionate about theatre education, and has taught ballet, tap, hip-hop, and jazz for both recreational and competition classes. In addition to teaching Theatre in various public schools, she also has taught improv workshops to students ranging in age from elementary school through college. At Lexington Children's Theatre she taught devised creative drama lessons as well as "Plays in a Week" to ages 3-17, similar to what she will be teaching at ACT-1!

Lovers of musicals, singers, actors, dancers, and writers all combine to make this class well-rounded and fun!

In this class we work together for the 10 week session to create our very own musical! After listening to a group of songs from popular musicals (such as Hamilton, Wicked, Mean Girls, etc) we will decide as a class how we think these songs connect. What story do they tell?  There are endless possibilities and we, as a class, get to choose!

The class is then divided into groups to write the scenes that go in between songs. The show is cast, and every person has a chance to shine! All students will contribute by singing, acting, dancing, writing, and collaborating with their ideas-- what could be more fun?! The session ends in a showcase for friends and family, to share our devised work!
